In July 2025 Ashlee Wachtel went to Cambridge University to attend the World Congress on Family Law and Children’s rights.
At Resolve Divorce, we believe learning never stops. That’s why we invest in our lawyers to train with global leaders and bring back new ideas in family law, conflict management, and client care. Every opportunity we take to grow means we can give you sharper advice, calmer strategies, and better support through separation.
This is Ashlee’s recount of her time.
In July 2025, I had the privilege of attending the prestigious World Congress on Family Law and Children’s Rights at Cambridge University – a gathering of some of the brightest minds in the family law sector, advocating for the future of children’s rights and promoting best practices in family law worldwide.
As a family law professional, this experience was invaluable, not only in terms of knowledge gained but also in providing me with the opportunity to connect with peers and experts from around the globe. What made this experience even more special is that it was made possible by the commitment of Resolve Divorce to invest in my professional development at such a prestigious international event.
The World Congress on Family Law and Children’s Rights is one of the most influential international platforms for family law practitioners. The event brought together top experts in the fields of family law from all stakeholders in the legal, advocacy and children’s rights centre including lawyers, Judges, medical professionals, academics, enforcement officers and psychologists. The common interest of all stakeholders in the conference was the active protection of children in sharing best practices to promote the rights of children and family law issues.
The Congress explored topics such as:
- How the family law profession needs to continue to innovate to deal with family violence
- Child trauma and the effect of adverse childhood experiences
- Innovative approaches to complex high conflict family law matters
- The Hague Convention and the impact of family violence and abuse in those proceedings
- Perfecting the Family Court system – comparing how different jurisdictions manage family law matters
- The role of technology in family law
The wealth of knowledge shared by the leading experts at the Congress has given me a fresh perspective that I have eagerly brought back to my practice and the broader team at Resolve.
At Resolve we are continuing to push boundaries and innovate the way that we support our clients. We pride ourselves in being expert family lawyers – we know the law! But what sets us apart is the further training and development opportunities that we undertake to be experts in conflict management and how we can best support our clients through the separation process.
I am privileged to have taken away so many learnings on trauma and conflict and the impact that high conflict and/or trauma can have on families in a separation. Being able to recognise this but also be equipped to strategise and ensure that our clients can be best placed in their negotiations is a skillset that not all lawyers carry.
